Glyphosate ban confusion
News of the demise of Glyphosate has been somewhat exaggerated!
As of Tuesday, January 15, 2019, the sale, distribution and use of Roundup Pro 360 weed killer are prohibited, following the cancellation of its marketing authorisation on the same day by the administrative court of Lyon .
However, this does not apply to any other Glyphosate based products,.
In 2018 President Emmanuel Macron had said that he would impose and oversee the phasing out of Glyphosate-based weed killers in France by 2021 despite EU commission approval for a further 5 years.
Farmers have been pushing back, saying that three years is not enough time to find an alternative that is both economically viable and environmentally friendly and this has resulted in a certain amount of back-pedaling since this statement and on the 24th of January this year Mr Macron stated “I’m not going to lie to you, it’s not true.”
